“Untitled Movement Lecture” is a movement performance inspired by the choreographer's observation that her life, along with the hectic world around her, lacks silence, stillness, and emptiness. John Cage’s “Lecture on Nothing” provides the structure of the piece, placing “nothing” at its core. Seven dancers, music, and the light plot strictly follow the structure provided by Cage and as one organism they slowly move closer to nothingness. It creates a shifting, painting-like landscape that can be simply observed in the present moment. The performance explores the importance of structure and accepting its limitations; it emphasizes the simplicity of form and content by using simple means of expression – the only two bodily states in the piece are standing and walking. In combination with slowness and repetition, this work creates space and time to simply be.

Most speeches are full of ideas. This one doesn’t have to have any. But at any moment an idea may come along. Then we may enjoy it. /John Cage/
